When I first started writing Wreckage, just over three years ago, I had no intention of publishing it. At the time, my thoughts were that a) I wanted to get all of these stories out of my psyche and on paper, and b) I somehow wanted it to be put together in a package. I really had no intention to "go public" so to speak. About a year into the writing process, my editor - the amazing Robrt Pela - suggested (somewhat strongly!) that my family's stories needed to be "out there" for the benefit of others. At the time, I'd written just 10 of the now 30 essays in the book. It took a while for me to wrap my head around the idea of publishing the collection and I wasn't always sure I would. Anyone who has attempted creative endeavors knows - it's scary to put it all "out there," and it's a special kind of vulnerability when personal, true stories are the subject matter.
So...many months and many iterations later, the book is complete and I'm ready to publish. Now, I'm looking for a literary agent and a publisher. I've never done this before and the process is pretty intimidating, but with the guidance of my editor and the support of my incredible family and friends, here goes!
To all of you who have asked how to get a copy of the book, thank you! Please be patient as I walk through this process and - fingers crossed - find the right agent and publisher for Wreckage. When that happens, you will be the first to know...and invites to the launch party will be forthcoming!
